How many people will be cast and what ages?
We're searching for a cast of both student and adult performers. But you must turn 9 prior to November 29, 2009 to be eligible to audition. The playwright wrote the play with 30 distinct characters; Ms. Viv is still developing her directorial concept so that number may move up or down as design meetings continue.
Which roles will be played by Students and which by adults?
We always prefer age appropriate casting, so older characters will be portrayed by adults while younger characters will be played by students. Be sure to check out the suggested cast of characters where approximate ages are listed beside the cast of characters.
If you want to know what role is perfect for you we recommend reading the PERUSAL SCRIPT available in the box office.
What does a director look for at auditions?
The director evaluates; your vocal qualities (pitch, placement, articulation and projection); your movement abilities (do you stand like a stick and read or do you perform the stage directions indicated in your script?); your sense of focus and your imagination and creativity (are you aware of the audience or do you create a reality on-stage, what are you doing to portray character?) and last but not least your expressiveness (is it in your words? your face? your body?). THEN we look at things like height, weight and hair color to think about what role you might fit into and which of the other people that auditioned might match up with you. The same criterion is true for callbacks.
