Discovery Productions – Open to the public
Since 1938, LCT has been creating productions for young audiences using young artists as actors and occasionally as technicians. As our productions became more and more popular with school groups, and our professional acting company expanded, we realized that fewer young people would be able to participate in subscription series productions. Many of our Main Stage shows require students to miss up to 20 days of school in a row! That makes it very difficult to keep up with schoolwork. To ensure that LCT retained its tradition of offering young people a variety of performance and technical opportunities, we began the Discovery Series in 1995. Our goals were relatively simple:
- Provide challenging performance opportunities for young people by presenting plays with central characters that are also young in age.
- Encourage and mentor students in the many areas of technical theatre.
- Shorten the run of the show so as to limit the number of missed school days.
- Provide LCT’s professional staff as support to improve the quality of our youth performances.

If you have holiday travel plans that conflict with these rehearsals unfortunately this is not the show for you.

Who: The show requires a cast of approximately 12-15 members ages 9-18. All performers must turn 9 prior to September 15th to be eligible to audition.
How: Auditions are by appointment only. To schedule an audition time, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
In your email tell us:
- Student’s name
- Date and time you wish to audition
- Name, phone number, and email address of a parent or guardian
- You may include a student phone number and email if you wish
We’ll confirm your appointment by email and include an audition packet. Please complete it and bring it with you to the audition.
Where and What: When you arrive at the theatre go to the check-in desk. If you have not already you will receive an audition packet and be asked to fill it out. You will turn in your completed forms at which time we’ll collect your $1 photo fee and take your picture. During the actual audition you’ll participate in warm-ups, improvisational activities, sing some simple carols, and read scenes from the script.
What to Prepare: We will provide audition sides (or scenes from the script) for you to practice and prepare at home. We will also provide several monologue options from the show, of which you should prepare one for auditions. None of these materials will need to be memorized. You will receive access to these materials when you email to set up your audition.
