Prior to or during auditions if you have a question about any part of the audition, rehearsal or performance aspect of this show, ask Ms. Anne. Reach her by phone at 859-254-4546 or via email (with no spaces) at: a meacham @ lctonstage.org
Audition dates

Where and when does the show perform?
There’s a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom performs on LCT's Main Stage
February 26 – March 9 for weekday and weekend performances.
The weekend performances are:
Sunday, February 26 @ 2:00 pm
Saturday, March 3 @ 2:00 and 7:00 pm
Sunday, March 4 @ 2:00 pm
The weekday performances are:
February 27 – March 2 and March 5 – 9 @ 10:00 and 11:45 AM
I might miss FIVE to TEN days of school (or work) to perform?
Yes. We currently know that there are ten weekday performances on LCT's Main Stage, but the actual number of days a cast member misses will depend on whether or not they are double cast.
Please check with your (employer) principal, and/or teachers PRIOR to auditioning so as to ensure whether you can miss 10 or 5 days AND that any missed days will be counted as excused. Some schools require you to complete an Academic Arts Enhancement form as well.
Students are expected to keep up with their school work. Many students attend school prior to or after performances to pick up and turn in work.
If you are a parent auditioning with your child we will ensure that you perform on the same days as your child.
What is double casting?
Two students attend rehearsals and learn all the lines and blocking for a role and then alternate performance days.
Discreet casting means that one actor learns all the lines and blocking (usually without understudies.)
How many people will be cast and what ages?
For this production, we need 18-22 actors between the ages of 9 and 18. A sample list of available roles and their suggested ages is available 3 questions down.
All performers must turn 9 prior to December 3rd, 2011 to be eligible to audition.
What role is perfect for me?
We recommend reading the PERUSAL SCRIPT available in the box office. But please keep in mind the role you think is perfect for you may not be the role the director chooses to challenge you with.
What does a director look for at auditions?
The director evaluates: your vocal qualities (pitch, placement, articulation and projection); your movement abilities (do you stand like a stick and read or do you perform the stage directions indicated in your script?); your sense of focus and your imagination and creativity (are you aware of the audience or do you create a reality on-stage, what are you doing to portray character?) and last but not least your expressiveness (is it in your words? your face? your body?). THEN we look at things like height, weight and hair color to think about what role you might fit into and which of the other people that auditioned might match up with you.
What roles are available in the cast of characters?
PLEASE NOTE: Characters, genders, and ages may be adjusted depending upon who auditions. Some characters may double. Much will depend on who auditions and how things shake out.

If I am cast what is the rehearsal schedule like?
Rehearsals will be January 2 through February 24, 2012. Rehearsal blocks are usually 3 to 4 hours long and fall between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM two to five days a week. Actual time frames will depend upon student availability. A tentative rehearsal schedule on which you can indicate your preferred rehearsal blocks is provided in the audition packet.
What if I have conflicts with the rehearsal schedule?
A tentative rehearsal calendar is provided in your audition packet so that you can list all activities that conflict with the rehearsal schedule, especially those which cannot be moved or missed. Director’s do their best to honor scheduling conflicts IF THEY ARE LISTED on the tentative rehearsal calendar in your packet. It is very difficult to adjust for conflicts after the rehearsal schedule is set. Remember directors juggle the schedules of up to 30 people. There may be occasions where you have to skip or reschedule something.
What do I do before auditions?
Once your appointment has been arranged you'll receive an Audition Packet. Download, print out and complete the papers in your audition packet (in your best handwriting) and READ the information sheet. The information sheet contains as much specific information as can be determined prior to auditions... every possible rehearsal date available, parental commitment, costume requirements, our general policies, etc. If time permits you'll also want to read the perusal script or the source material.
What do I wear to auditions?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move without risk of embarrassment, but does not mask the size and shape of your body.
What do I bring to auditions?
Your completed audition packet ... audition form (front and back)
The tentative rehearsal schedule with any possible conflict dates listed.
$1.00 for your photo
You might also want to bring a “quiet” activity (homework or books are highly recommended as the process can be a lot of hurry up and wait).
If you are a student you should bring a parent for the first 20 minutes while we go over some logistics. Especially if this is your first time auditioning -- bring a parent!
What is on the audition form?
The front has your vital statistics so we know how to get hold of you (and your parents), your availability for callbacks and rehearsals, a space for listing conflicts and a photo waiver.
The back of the audition form is a place to list your theatre experiences, training and special talents. Resumes are encouraged but not required.
There is a space for your photo. They will be taken that day by LCT staff. A photo is mandatory, no substitutes. With the number of people coming through the door it is important that your picture is of you, in the clothes that you wore to the audition that day.
Do I have to have a resume?
No. But if you're serious about this business and have been in several productions or taken several classes you should create one. We'll be glad to attach it to your audition form on the day of your audition.
What will I do at auditions?
When you arrive at the theatre go to the check-in desk. If you have not already you will receive an audition packet and be asked to fill it out. We'll collect your $1.00 photo fee; you'll have your picture taken and turn in your forms. There will be a brief meeting with students and their parents before we move to the actual auditioning - which will include warm-ups, cold readings and improvisation.
It’s best to think that you are auditioning at all times from the moment you walk in the door until you leave the building. We do watch how you behave while waiting, while standing in line, while others are performing... all of these things tell us how you will behave during the rehearsal and performance process.
When are callbacks?
Call backs are scheduled for Wednesday December 7th and Thursday December 8th, 2011 from 6 – 9:30 PM
What is a callback and do I attend?
A callback is a director’s second look at you and your skills. If we hold callbacks Anne Meacham will contact you and let you know whether you need to attend or not.
When will you announce the cast?
The target announcement date and time is 5 PM Monday, December 12, 2011.
The time above is a target date, but casting may take a little longer than expected. Why so long between callbacks and announcement? So that the director can finalize plans with the creative design team and think through all of the logistics of the production.
How do I know if I am cast or not?
The Stage Manager will send an email to all auditionees informing them of the final cast list or you may call the Discovery Audition hotline extension 310 to listen to the cast list after 5 PM Monday, December 12, 2011.
If I am cast, what do I need to provide?
Actors are required to provide appropriate shoes, socks and underwear and all make-up supplies as determined by the costume designer. Make-up kits run $15 to $30. Dress or dance shoes may run between $20 and $60 dollars. Since the play is set in modern time, the costume department may ask you to provide parts of your costumes from your wardrobe.
How are parents involved?
It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure their child arrives and departs in a timely fashion from all scheduled activities. In addition, we ask parents to volunteer a minimum of six hours. These volunteers may help with cast crowd control, front door duty, make-up application, or ushering for performances - just to name a few. We are searching for the right person to be our volunteer coordinator. Is it you? Be sure to mention your interest to the stage manager or add that tidbit to your child’s audition form.
