Below Mt. Kenya live the Akamba people and they have a princess named Kalendi who has the most beautiful hair. Kalendi loves to show off her hair, but when a weaver bird asks for a strand of her hair, she refuses. The Bird curses her and causes a drought to befall the land and the princess loses her prized possession, her beautiful hair. Kalendi is frighten and turns ashamed and bitter and will not show herself to anyone. Mouma, a kind hearted beggar takes pity on the princess and sets out on a quest to restore Kalendi’s beauty and good nature. If Kalendi can prove that she can care for something other than herself her hair maybe restored.  The Princess Who Lost Her Hair is filled with puppetry, African proverbs and Swahili to help transport the audience into this Akamba legend.
