Volunteers

Volunteering at Lexington Children's Theatre provides you the opportunity to learn all about the world of live theatre—from the writing, designing, and directing of our plays to the front of house and administrative functions of LCT. We look forward to having you join the LCT family as a member of the LCT Volunteer Team!

Public Performance Ushers

Open to volunteers 9 years of age or older who are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Ushers 14 and older may be dropped off. Usher duties include any of the following: stuffing and passing out programs, light cleaning of the theatre, ticket taking, protection of the props and scenery as the audience enters and exits, and assisting at concessions after the show. Each shift is approximately 3 hours.

School Performance Ushers

This position is an option for volunteers 18 years of age or older. Please note: You must be available weekdays during the day (starting at about 9am for our 10am show and 10:45 for our 11:45 show). Usher duties for these performances include: leading and seating school groups according to the seating chart, stuffing teacher packets to be given out at the end of the performance, light cleaning of the theatre, and protection of the props and scenery as the audience enters and exits. Ushers may see a show during their shift if seating is available. Each shift is approximately 2 ½ hours.

Classroom Apprentices

Open to volunteers 13 years of age or older, apprentices assist the teachers with everything from administrative support to leading warm-up exercises. Apprentices are needed for all classes and workshops offered during the season (weekdays, saturday mornings and one day workshops) and through out the summer. Summer classes typically meet Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm throughout the summer and once a week for 6 weeks through the school year.

Administrative

Many projects in our marketing and development departments require very little time commitment and are flexible in nature. Typically, Administrative Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age and are needed during the work week 9am to 5pm. Projects subject to availability and skill set. Examples: labeling, data entry and envelope stuffing.

Outreach, Special Events & Birthday Parties

Outreach Volunteers represent LCT at fairs and conferences in the community. They help to set up booths, distribute brochures, lead activities, and answer questions about Lexington Children's Theatre. They often receive the benefit of attending the event they are working, such as Summer Camp Fair, Woodlawn Arts Fair and Mayfest Scheduling for these events happens on an as-needed basis.

Special Events Volunteers assist with fund raising events and functions for our donors. They often get the chance to attend the function they are helping with, such as a Celebrity Curtain Call, special donor parties and show related events. Scheduling for these events is on an as-needed basis. Volunteer at birthday parties and assist with greeting and set up, and you may receive the benefit of attending a show.

Technical Opportunities

Are you a strong scenic artist? Good with power tools? A hand crafter type of person? Can you always find "just the right thing" when shopping? Are you an organizer? Or want to assist with directing or choreogrpahy? Then the technical opportunities provided in our discovery productions are right up your alley.
