Aesop’s Fables On Stage: Previously at LCT
Everyone can use a bit of advice now and then. And everyone loves stories! Just ask the master story-spinner and advice-giver of Ancient Greece, Aesop! (I-sop? E-sop? A-sop? How exactly DO you say his name?) Jump into a world of color and fun as our trio of storytellers use music, dance, and a dose of hilarity to re-enact some of Aesop’s most famous fables. You’ll laugh, clap, and cheer along with these beloved stories that teach us memorable lessons like “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch” and “Slow and steady wins the race.”

About Aesop’s Fables On Stage
Aesop’s Fables On Stage is a fun and wacky retelling of the Greek storyteller Aesop’s most famous stories. The three actors go through nine different fables, taking turns telling the story and acting as the characters. The morals in this show are familiar lessons such as “Don’t cry over spilled milk,” “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” “Slow and steady wins the race,” and many more. Be sure to keep an eye out for several modern pop culture references woven throughout the play as well!
Aesop’s fables are fun and memorable stories that teach important lessons. In order to do that, several of the characters in those fables are flawed characters. They might be greedy, narcissistic, or even sly – and that occasionally creates moments on stage that could potentially be a little scary. In The Goose with the Golden Eggs, the farmer and his wife become greedy after the goose has gifted them with one golden egg per day, and decide to kill the goose (which is portrayed with a puppet) so they can take the rest of the golden eggs they believe are inside it. In The Lion and the Mouse, the lion captures the little mouse with a mighty roar and originally says he is going to eat the mouse before eventually deciding to let her go. Both situations are played to comedic effect, rather than being truly frightening.
This play is a great way to spark conversations about morals, storytelling, and right and wrong in a fun risk-free way! The theatre is a great place to see cautionary tales unfold without experiencing any danger ourselves. We hope you take the opportunity to talk to your family about these fables and the lessons they contain. You might ask questions like, Did you have a favorite fable? Why do you think people have been telling these stories for thousands of years? What would you do in that situation? Why is it important to do the right thing? How can we learn from our mistakes?
We love this play because it is just so much fun! Whether you’re a kid or a grown-up, you’ll be laughing the whole way through this colorful and hilarious production that brings these timeless stories into present day in a fresh, fun way. We can’t wait to have you in the (digital) audience!
