LCT’s Field Trip Matinees allow your students to experience the magic of live, professional theatre. Performances take place at our theatre located in downtown Lexington. We have shows available throughout the school year for a variety of grade levels and subjects! All school matinees include a post-show Q&A and access to our Educational Play Guide for the production.

At Lexington Children’s Theatre, we want every student in Kentucky to have an incredible theatre experience. We understand the needs of schools and that having a ticket that is affordable is essential, which is why we keep our ticket prices low while maintaining our professional high quality.

We do need the total number of everyone who will need a seat in the theatre and are included in the group’s order, including teachers, chaperones, bus drivers who are watching the show, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the shows perform?

Most of our shows are performed on LCT’s Main Stage or Learning Stage, both of which are conveniently located in our building at 418 W. Short Street, Lexington, KY 40507. Elf The Musical Jr will take place right across the street from LCT in The Lexington Opera House at 401 W Short Street.

Where can we eat lunch?

Unfortunately, LCT does not have space in our building for groups to eat lunch outside of shows.

Triangle Park is a lovely outdoor space one block from our theatre and could be a good option for smaller groups as it has several tables around the park. Larger groups might want to check out our field trip sponsor Gattitown, which has several lunch and play options and is a fifteen-minute drive from our theatre.

The Lexington Convention Center and The Square are not open for large group seating, please do not go there to eat lunch unless you are able to arrange a visit with them ahead of time.

Are parents, teachers, the bus driver, etc. FREE?

We charge admission for each seat. Please note that individual tickets not ordered through the school with the larger group (parents and bus drivers, for example) will be sold at the chaperone rate of $15 rather than the school group rate of $10.00 and we cannot guarantee that they will be able to be seated with the school group. We ask that groups give us an accurate count (students, teachers, chaperones) and make a single payment during booking to ensure group seating.

What if additional individuals wish to attend?

Individual tickets to a school day show can be purchased at the chaperone rate of $15. Individual tickets must be paid for at the time of ordering, and there are no refunds for individual tickets. At least one week’s notice is required to be seated with a group already attending, please do not arrive at the theatre without having previously purchased your ticket, we cannot guarantee that we will have a seat for you or that you will be able to sit with your group.

What if I need to change my seat total?

Seats may always be added to an order, subject to availability. Up until 30 days before the date of your performance, you may cancel any number of seats, up to and including canceling the entire booking. After the 30-day cancelation deadline, you may decrease up to 10 seats from your order until 1 week before the performance, at which point no additional seat reductions can be made. All changes to an order must be placed by the school, by the person who initially placed the order, and must be communicated to and approved by LCT prior to arrival for the show.

What if I need to cancel my order?

School matinee bookings may be canceled up until 30 days before the performance date. After this deadline, you may only reduce up to 10 seats. For more information, read “What if I need to change my seat total?” above.

If school is canceled, can I get a refund?

If your school day is canceled, we will do our best to reschedule you to a different performance of the same show, or if that is not possible to another show later in our season. A refund will be issued if rescheduling is not possible after exhausting all avenues. If LCT has to cancel a show for any reason, you will receive a full refund as well.

When is payment due?

Payment is due no later than the day your group attends the performance. You can mail a check to the theatre, please include the invoice number in the memo of the check. You are also welcome to hand a check to our staff when you arrive if that is easiest for you! Receipts will be emailed to the person who made the reservation within 1-3 days after the show.
