Discovery Productions – Open to the public
Since 1938, LCT has been creating productions for young audiences using young artists as actors and occasionally as technicians. As our productions became more and more popular with school groups, and our professional acting company expanded, we realized that fewer young people would be able to participate in subscription series productions. Many of our Main Stage shows require students to miss up to 20 days of school in a row! That makes it very difficult to keep up with schoolwork. To ensure that LCT retained its tradition of offering young people a variety of performance and technical opportunities, we began the Discovery Series in 1995. Our goals were relatively simple:
- Provide challenging performance opportunities for young people by presenting plays with central characters that are also young in age.
- Encourage and mentor students in the many areas of technical theatre.
- Shorten the run of the show so as to limit the number of missed school days.
- Provide LCT’s professional staff as support to improve the quality of our youth performances.

We’ll confirm your appointment by email and include an audition packet. Please complete it and bring it with you to the audition.
Where and What: When you arrive at the theatre go to the check-in desk. If you have not already you will receive an audition packet and be asked to fill it out. You will turn in your completed forms at which time we’ll collect your $1 photo fee and take your picture. During the actual audition you’ll participate in warm-ups, improvisational activities, and read scenes from the script.
What to Prepare: The script can be read at LCT during box office hours and must be returned to the box office before you depart the building. We highly recommend reading the book by E.B. White, as much of the script matches the book closely. Copies of the book are for sale in the lobby at LCT. Please also read the Audition FAQ below, as it provides extensive guidance about what to expect at auditions.
